Recipe: Homemade five-spice powder
Spices and aromatic herbs mixtures
February 14, 2010
This year I'm cooking a special dinner for both Valentine's Day and Chinese New Year, a romantic dinner with chinese dishes. I've cooked all day, and there's still a lot of work to do.
As usually, I had to prepare my homemade spices mixture, and the aroma is been all around for hours.
There are many different recipes for chinese five spice powder, that uses the cassia instead of cinnamon, or anise seeds.
Five-spice powder
Ingredients
2 star anise
1 tsp fennel seeds
1/2 tsp black pepper corns
3cm cinnamon
5 cloves
Directions
Broke the star anice and toast it with the black pepper corns in a pan for 3-4 minutes. Add the remaining ingredients and toast another minute. Grind them and store in a jar.
