Aromatic herbs in May
Growing aromatic herbs
May 05, 2011
It's an unusual May here in Sicily, cold and rainy, and all aromatic herbs are late: seeds take a long time to germinate, and perennial plants are recovering slowly.
I cross my fingers for dill, because only two plants sprouted, and I don't know if they will survive to the summer.

The coriander took an unusually long time to germinate too, but it will be ready to be harvested soon.
I thought that my curry plant was died, but it has new green shoots.
My licorice is emerged from winter dormancy, luxuriant as every year.
Since the winter is over the garden cress is not very luxuriant, I'm not harvesting it and now it's bolting.
I sow many chives seeds, and it looks like every one is sprouted!
Tips: Cooking with chives
I pruned the rosemary to give it a more compact form, and tender new shoots grow quickly.
Who would have thought that the celery is a weed, in spring and autumn it borns in the pots for flowers and ornamental peppers and I welcome it and harvest its tiny, tasty stalks.
