June gardening tips: The harvest begins

Rooftop gardening
June 28, 2010

Summer is here and the main tasks on the rooftop are watering and harvesting.
Remeber to water constantly, because an hot day could kill or seriously damage the plants.
However, don't drown plants: too much water could damage them too.

Harvest is a satisfying work: plan the harvests, so you can cook or store everything, avoiding waste.

White onionThe white onion bulbs planted in autumn have grown quite well on the rooftop.

Yellow carrotsThe yellow carrots were the last winter crop on the terrace: few, but tasty.

White PaprikaI grow many varieties of chilli, paprika and sweet peppers on the rooftop. This white paprika surprised me, the plant is small but its fruits are really big.

PapaloThis is papalo: it has an intense and peculiar taste.

Green Zebra Stripes tomatoThe Green Zebra Stripes tomatoes ripe from green to bright orange.
The wind has dropped this unripe tomato, and I used it for the Tex-Mex Papalo Dip.
