April gardening tips: Harvests and repottings
Rooftop gardening
April 19, 2010
Rooftop gardening during April is mostly a repotting business, while the first harvests will make us happy.
Tomatoes, peppers, chilies and aubergines can be growed in pots.
Repot the plants, and install the supports.
Almost all aromatic herbs can be growed in your rooftop.
This year I'm trying something new, like the Papalo (Porophyllum coloratum) and the Quilquiña or bolivian coriander (Porophyllum ruderale).

Green salads can be growed in pots too, like the pak choi (left), sowed last month and the spinach (right) transplanted two weeks ago.
My Pak Choi is a dwarf variety, its leaves are 12-15 cm in diameter and can be eaten raw in salads, stir-fried or added to soups.
Radishes are perfect to be growed in pots.
This is a Burro Radish, an early variety.
Fire Candle is red outside and white-pink inside.
Winter Black is a winter radish, black outside, really pungent.
Radishes have also big leaves, that you can use in the recipes: Radish Leaves Omelette with Nira and Radish Leaves Soup.
You can also compost them as seen in Compost: lasagna gardening in pots.
