Recipe: Baby daal
Weaning recipes
October 15, 2009
It's always a challenge to cook for a baby during weaning months: many foods are a no-no, right nutrient doses are more important than ever... and you may have to cope with a fussy baby too.
This is my nine month old baby's favourite food: the baby daal. Of course there is no spice in it, only lentils and vegetables.
This recipe is a suggestion, but always ask to your paediatrician about the diet of your baby.
Baby daal
(6-12 months)
2-3 potato slices
4 carrot slices
1 tsp yellow split lentils (mung dal)
Put potato, carrot, lentils and 250ml of water in a pot, then cook over low heat for one hour.
Filter the broth and homogenize the vegetables with a blender.
Now you can add the ingredients of your choice (or the ones that your paediatrician suggested): rice, baby cereals or pastina (mini pasta for babies), and homogenized meat or fish.
Baby daal with pastina
(9-12 months)
Boil the broth with the homogenized daal, and add 2 tbsp of baby mini pasta. Put in a bowl and add a teaspoon of olive oil and a teaspoon of grated parmesan.
